WHAT IS BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS
Big Brothers Big Sisters is not your typical organization. We help children in our local communities realize their potential and build their futures. We nurture children and strengthen communities. We accomplish this by inspiring and building confidence with the lives we touch. And we couldn’t do any of it WITHOUT YOU.
Children deserve the opportunity to discover their true potential. We want every child to be excited about their future, which is why we strive to be immeasurable mentors and leaders that will leave a lasting impact on the children with whom we work. We hope to expose them to many fulfilling and life-changing experiences while developing positive relationships that will shape their future.
You don't have to be a parent to improve the lives of the youth in your local community. As volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters, we advocate for children along with providing guidance and raising the awareness that all youth warrant the chance to achieve success in life.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A BIG
When you are involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters as a donor, volunteer, Big Brother, Big Sister, or Board Member, you are changing a child’s future for the better. “I’m a BIG…” gives BBBS supporters a way to promote their continued story and work with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
BIG OF THE MONTH
Serving on the board for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County and as a Big Brother himself, Chad Van Horn has this to say “I highly recommend Big Brother Big Sister – not just for the kids, but for the big.” Van Horn explained. “For me, it made me a more well-rounded person. It made me realize what some of my weaknesses are and what some of my strengths are. Because when you are dealing with a little brother that just doesn’t know things that you know, it’s amazing how you can see him grow and you grow at the same time.”
